Four local SEO jobs worth doing before you spend on ads

Most small businesses are invisible locally for reasons that take an afternoon to fix and cost nothing.

Before paying for clicks, it's worth making sure the free listings are right. These four fixes account for most of the local visibility we recover for people.

1. Claim and finish your Google Business Profile

Not just claimed — finished. Correct categories, real opening hours, service areas, and photos that aren't three years old. It's the single biggest lever on whether you appear in the map results.

2. Make your name, address and phone identical everywhere

Old suite numbers and disconnected mobile numbers scattered across directories quietly undermine you. Pick one exact format and make everything match it.

3. Give each service its own page

A single page listing eight services ranks for none of them. Eight pages, each answering one question properly, gives search engines something to match against.

4. Ask for reviews, and reply to them

Reviews influence both ranking and whether anyone rings. Asking at the moment a customer is happiest works far better than a follow-up email a week later.
